After crackdown, army makes show of force in Bahrain’s capital
Army vehicles rumbled through the streets of Bahrain’s capital Thursday, hours after security forces stormed an encampment of protesters in the dead of night, killing three and injuring more than 200, officials and witnesses said.
The charge occurred in the Pearl Roundabout, a landmark city circle in the center of Manama, and the clampdown swiftly drew local and international condemnation.
Witnesses described a blunt show of force, with police firing pellets, rubber bullets and tear gas to force protesters out of the square. They said police indiscriminately attacked demonstrators who modeled themselves after the protesters on Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt.
